Ever since I was a young man, I have always had a fascination with all types of equipment and how it works. Luckily for me growing up, my father was a mechanic for one of the local agricultural dealerships in our area. I was always astounded how my father could diagnose and then fix the problem no matter how complicated the situation was. If I had the opportunity to go to work with him, I always tagged along. I always thought I would become a mechanic like my father. I even spent hours at a time watching technical training videos with my father for his certification training. Unfortunately, at the time I was only ten years old and could not work at an agricultural dealership but, little did I know my fascination with agriculture and equipment would lead to something much more than becoming a mechanic.
It was 1996 and my father helped me start a lawn care business in my home town – since that was a job a ten year old could have. Through college, I continued to operate and grow my lawn care business. In my spare time, I also started working at the agricultural dealership where my father worked, so that I could continue to expand my knowledge about all types of equipment. In 2008, I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agri-Business/Farm Management. I then decided to become an entrepreneur, turning my summer job of mowing into my full-time business and Bock’s Lawn Care, Inc. was established. Now, I know you are asking, “What does lawn care have to do with Bock’s Equipment & Repair, Inc.?” In December of 2008, my father was told that the dealership he had been working at since 1980 would be closing its doors for good. It was a shock to my entire family and area customers, but I saw an opportunity out of this bad situation.
I approached my father with the idea of working with me in my lawn care business, and then following the 2009 mowing season starting an agricultural repair shop. I was convinced that with our knowledge of the industry, and with his customer following, that a successful business could be started. After a long summer of mowing, debating, and planning the new business together, the door to Bock’s Ag-Repair, Inc. opened in December of 2009. In January of 2013, the business was able to buy the building we are doing business out of in Galva, Illinois, and a permanent home for both Bock’s Ag-Repair and Bock’s Lawn Care was established. As of January 1st of 2017, Bock’s Ag-Repair, Inc. was renamed to Bock’s Equipment & Repair, Inc., as we realized the business had become much more than a repair shop to our customers.
